Volunteering with YALI: Empowering Citizens Through Free Voter Registration
During the 2023 General Elections in Nigeria, I proudly volunteered with the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), a U.S.-based organization dedicated to empowering African youth. Recognizing that many eligible voters lacked access to digital devices, I stepped in to bridge the gap by providing free voter registration services using my personal laptop.
Over several weeks, I worked tirelessly to ensure that eligible voters in my community had the opportunity to make their voices heard. Through this effort, I successfully registered over 1,000 eligible voters, empowering them to participate in shaping the future of our nation.
This experience was profoundly fulfilling, as it showcased the power of grassroots efforts in strengthening democracy and fostering inclusivity. Volunteering with YALI reinforced my belief in the importance of active citizenship and inspired me to continue advocating for positive social change.
